‘The World They Live In’ Gets Exported for Record PriceFriday October 31, 2008 Korea KBS’s “The World They Live In” casting Song Hye Kyo and Hyun Bin is exported to Japan for a record 3 billion Korean won, the highest amount of any Korean drama in history. YEG, the production company of “The World They Live In” has revealed recently that they have signed an agreement with Japan’s Avex Group, giving them the broadcast rights and media (video and audio) rights of the drama in Japan.
According to the representative of YEG, this price is the highest among all Korean dramas in history. The Japanese company Avex Group that bought the rights is the largest entertainment company in Japan and has also previously bought Bae Yong Joon’s “Tae Wang Sa Shin Gi”. Avex is currently on discussions with the TV stations in Japan.
As “The World They Live In” is the returning project of Song Hye Kyo after a hiatus of 4 years, the drama has attracted the attentions of many fans and entertainment companies in Asia since its initial announcement. Apart from Japan, over 10 entertainment companies from China, Thailand, Singapore, etc are also currently on discussions with YEG on the distribution rights in their respective countries.
